Sayaka Ohata is an internationally active artist based in Tokyo and Vienna. She graduated from the department of Media Arts at Tama Art University in Tokyo, before moving to France to continue her studies at Beaux-Arts.
Ohata approaches art-making through the idea of creating a mis-en-scene or a staging, rather than making objects in a strict sense. Utilizing things present in her everyday surroundings, Ohata creates “events”, and then (re-)uses these “encounters” as artifacts to be transformed. These experimental explorations question relationships between the body, society and information.
Ohata is also part of an artistic collaboration with Joseph Mayrhofer, working under the name M-O.
